BACK...Report Braga II
TEAM LINKS SPONSORSRace Report – Motosport Portimão II Quali 1 – Fri pm The Portuguese SBK shared this round with the World Superbike Championship this weekend as such had to accommodate the main event calendar. Proceedings only kicked off Friday late PM with the fist quali session. HM Motos had prepped the Suzuki GSXR1000 to an “Evo” format that featured a different engine, electronics and front brake system. First few laps were to shake out the new set up. It soon became clear that the traction control system was not working properly and had cut in the quick shifter action as well. The front end was now also too powerful & abrupt for the rear in its current form causing rear slides under braking that albeit spectacular were not conducive to fast lap times. Despite all problems Nuno closed the session with a lap the in the low 1.57s on used tyres which was a good posting given all the predicaments listed above but left some work to do on Saturday. Quali 2 – Sat am Better conditions in the early am with lower temperature aiding engine performance and preventing from the rubber laid down by the WSBK's to grain / grease up the track in the heat. HM Motos changed the bike and despite traction still being way off the mark at least it was not getting in the way of the quick shifter. The rear end was surprisingly also more stable after some softening which made it much more accommodative and less unsettling for the rest of the bike. That allowed lap times to come in to the low 1.56s which was good to enter the Top 10 in the session. Warm up Sun am Tyres were shot for this session. Lap times in the mid 1.57s were once again good for Top10. Race – Sun PM With more than 40 bikes on track across both SBK & SStock 600 this was always going to be an interesting race. Nuno go to a good start and got straight into the mix of things. SBK regulars and SStock top 5 were committed and fighting for championship points so the priority was to be careful not to impact anyone’s races. After a few laps the rhythm settled down with Nuno in the Top third of the classification and racing Tiago Araújo – who needed a 9th in class to secure the Portuguese SStock 600 title. Nuno made sure to have a good clean race and let Tiago Pass a fair few times to ensure that his race went as cleanly as possible. At the end of the race... Nuno made a safe pass (wheeling!) over the line to come in 16th overall with a best lap of 1.551. Positive weekend, main objective was to prepare the bike for Macau – amply fulfilled.
